Causality and human brain mapping

Advances in functional neuroimaging offer more and more possibilities to study the human brain "at work", but what can neuroimaging tell us about the causal interactions within functional brain networks? While these mapping techniques can identify correlations between brain activity and behaviour, their "correlational" nature render it difficult to infer causality.
Yet to understand the cognitive architecture of the human brain, it is important to clarify the causal contribution of each network component to a brain function.
In my talk, I will highlight how non-invasive transcranial brain stimulation
- in combination with brain imaging - can be used to trace causality in the human brain.
